Yes, you can heat up olive oil and put it in your hair - olive oil and coconut oil are the best for this, because they have fatty acids which penetrate the hair (which helps to remove dye pigments).

Dampen your hair slightly first and this will help your hair retain moisture.

Get an eggcup and put the olive oil in it, then put the eggcup in a bowl which has been filled with boiling water and cover it with a teatowel. This heats the oil more gently than the microwave and means that you can avoid overheating the oil and burning yourself. Work the oil into your hair - heat more if you need to. To start off with, try a couple of tablespoons, and then work your way up to more if you need it. pile your oiled hair on your head and wrap it up with plastic wrap and cover with a towel or large wooly hat to keep it warm. Let it sit in your hair for at least an hour. Some people sleep with the oil in.

Shampoo thoroughly twice with a clarifying shampoo or shower gel to get the olive oil out. You can also use conditioner after this.

Hot oil treatments are exactly what they sound like. They're mostly used to give moisture to your hair and bring it back to life after harsh dying/styling/ect. Beauty Supply stores, such as Sally's, sell hot oil treatments in tubes. You could get away with using only olive oil; The best way would be to pour a small amount in a bowl and heat it up in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes. If it's too hot, make sure to let it cool down enough or it will burn your scalp. Once it's cooled down apply it to all of your hair, especially the roots and ends. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes and wash your hair like normal.

I use olive oil. Just warm some in a cup placed in a bowl of warm water. Don't get it too hot. Leave on at least 15 minutes. You can keep the oil warm by wrapping your head with a warm towel from the dryer.
