I need a good flat iron because i have a drugstore one,and my hair is very coarse thick and curly. I used to use a chi flat iron pretty expensive but worth it. I barely heard about this new Hai Convertable Straightner. I heard it's a nano ceramic, and usually those are good for your hair. So which one do you all recommend i get? I want my hair silky shiny healthy looking.

i would recommend Karmin, is pretty good:

If you want a professional flat iron and you are ok with spending around $140 I would highly recommend the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it heats up to 450f with temperature control, dual voltage, tourmaline ceramic plates with rounded edges which makes it great for also curling your hair. Also has a 3 year warranty. If you are in the US you can buy from http://MyHairStylingTools.com, they are also giving away a free heat matt/carrying case and some heat serum that works really well. If you are in Canada you can buy at http://www.hairtools.ca/. If you do look at other irons make sure to stay away from irons with painted plates (colored plates) these can damage your hair.

A little about plate quality:

* Aluminum – 90’s and low quality, will stick to your hair and terrible results.

* Colored Plates – Stay away from these, they may look nice but they are for show and they are not good for your hair.

* Ceramic Plates – White or Yellowish color plate – These plates are good but they are older technology from around 2002. Many companies still use these as it is cheaper to manufacture than a tourmaline ceramic plate.

* Titanium Plates – Gun Metal Grey color – These are great plates and provide great results. These and Tourmaline Ceramic plates are about the same in quality but work different with different hair types. You would need to try both to see which one provides the best results for your hair type.

* Tourmaline Ceramic – Gun Metal Grey in color – These are currently the best plates on the market. currently I only see Karmin and Sedu using these plates. It appears all the other brands are focused on cutting costs by using the cheaper plates.

Some features you should look for:

* Variable Temperature Control (If you have thick hair make sure it heats up to at least 420F)

* Swivel Cord

* At least a 3 year warranty (most hair straighteners will die in the first year or two)

* If you travel then make sure its dual voltage

Neither.

ALL HAIR STRAIGHTENERS, no matter what brand, who sells them, how much you paid for them, ALL damage the hair. I've responded to many girls under 15, experienced in hair falls 7 in 2 hours, 9-3-10. Your hair won't look like those advertised, after you leave the house. And it won't look like that, after you've used it for awhile. It's a billion dollar business, to sell products but they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss, due to 'abuse'.

Hair protectant does not protect hair 100%. Like sunscreen, you still get sunburned. Same with hair.

Example 1:

I have medium-long brown hair. And when I was in 6th grade I had natural curly hair, but when I found out about hair straighteners I have been doing that almost every day since then. I am currently in 8th grade. And my hair is so so damaged and I want to save my hair and start wearing it natural again! But it's really frizzy and damaged that it looks bad. I tried using Wen Cleansing Conditioner. But I had to stop because it's expensive. I want to save my hair before it falls off. If you know any good shampoos or remedies that would help!

Example 2: My hairs falling out,i have long hair and used to straighten it and have now stopped recently but my hair stil falls out, please help with some tips or remedies

Example 3: i straighten my hair so much....everytime i wash it i use the hair straightening iron on them but m hair has become really weak and i'm also suffering from hair loss now...

I've stopped pressing my hair further but what else should i do SAVE my hair and repair the damage??

Example 4:

I don't hate my hair or anything...it's just not what I would like it to be. It sticks up sometimes in places and is damaged from my Chi straightener. I have been using protection the past few months on my hair and have also started using Tresemme Thermal Recovery shampoo and conditioner. I also spray Chi Iron Guard on my hair before I start straightening. It's helped, but I want to find other ways to get my hair shinier and softer too. My hair sometimes feels rough, not really terribly coarse or hard or anything that bad but I want it smooth and soft. Help mee!

Example 5:

My hair started falling out like ALL the time. and know whenever I even run my fingers through my hair, like 10 strands fall out. What shampoos are good foor preventing the hair fall? Oh, and I also used to straighten my hair all the time. Does that have anything to do with it?

Another example: I always straighten my hair and occasionally curl it, but my hair is a little dry and it's pretty damaged, so I'm thinking about shaving it so i could have the nice healthy hair I used to have? So would it be a great idea to shave it?

But this one says it all:

Ok so the last time I had a real haircut was about 3 years ago. I used to straighten my hair about 5 times a week, for like a a year and a half after that and it did not grow at all during that time. Well I dyed it and I could see the roots, but it never got longer, I guess it was breaking off..So finally I got an inch trimmed off cause I thought that might help but I kept straightening it and still it didn't grow. So like last december I got it trimmed again and I decided I would stop straightening and dying my hair for good so haven't straightened or dyed it in like 8 months now and still it hasn't even grown 1 inch. Oh and also I have been getting it trimmed like 1/4 inch every other month now since january cuz the hairdresser told me that would help it grow, but it's not in fact my hair is now actually shorter then when I started three years ago because of those trims I had, it's only like shoulder length now

Anyways why won't my hair grow?? I have taken so many vitamins, I tried hair skin and nails, hairtopia, hairfinity, prenatal vitamins. I eat healthy and I exercise too and I take really good care of my hair, I only wash it twice a week in cool water now and I deep condition and everything, but still it never grows anymore, I think it might be breaking off, but why would it be still breaking off now that I have been taking such good care of it??

Those who can't predict their future will find out the hard way by the time they're 35 years old.

The hair industry is a billion dollar business, their job is to make money, but they don't give money back guarantee for damaged hair.

Jose Eber is a good example, another celebrity hairstylist of the stars, in the 80's wrote a book "Shake your head darling.' Promoting the healthy way to style hair. Many of his celebrity models have fried hair. Now he's promoting his own brand of hair straightening tools, which also damage the hair. Why? Because he can! I doubt he even use them!

The hair industry reminds me of a book by Dr. Seus' The Sneetches & Other Stories, that's what I'm trying to point.
