Hope this helps you to trim your own hair and avoid common mistakes by following these hair trimming tips.

1. Purchase Scissors Designed to Cut Hair

There are many kinds of scissors that are appropriate for giving your ends a quick trim, including mustache scissors and hair cutting shears. Make sure your scissors are clean and sharp to get the cleanest cut possible. Scissors that are dull can actually give you worse split ends than the ones you are trying to remedy. Salon style tools will produce closer to salon style results with practice.

2. Dry your Hair before Trimming

Dry hair is considered easier to trim because you know exactly how it is going to hang, and are able to see every strand separated. Wet hair tends to clump together, and although great results can be achieved with a wet trim at the salon, you may not be able to trim your own hair fast enough to keep it even. If you have curly hair, consider straightening it with a flat iron or blow drying it straight for the best results.

3. If you are Trimming Wet Hair, Keep it Wet

If you have curly hair and prefer to cut it when it is wet and detangled, or if you have straight hair and prefer how your hair lies down when it is wet making it easier for you to cut, keep in mind that hair dries quickly when you are trimming it. Keep your hair wet during the whole trimming session by using a spray bottle on each section before trimming it.

4. Separate your Hair into Sections

Trim only one small section of hair at a time for the most even results. Hold the hair you are not cutting up on top of your head with a hair-tie or clip.

5. Use your Fingers as a Hair Guard

Pull the section of your hair ready to be trimmed down and hold the section at the bottom with 2 fingers. Trim the hair by cutting below the fingers.

6. Only Cut 1/8 Inch at a Time

One way to avoid giving yourself a whole new hair style is keeping your trim to a minimum. Trim only the very ends of your hair that contain the most damage from split ends. If you trim 1/8 inch each month, your hair will stay healthy and should look fresh.

7. Trim Bangs Starting from the Center

Start by brushing your bangs down straight and then begin cutting starting at the center and working your way to the sides.

8. Check your Progress with a Double Sided Mirror

It is advisable to keep a double sided mirror handy for checking the back of your hair and making sure your trim is even and thorough.

Good Luck

Hi.

I would personally go to a hairdresser because if you cut it wonky you will correct it and then it wont be straight enough so you will correct it again and then eventually your hair will be too short!

But if you fear that the hairdressers are too expensive why not find a nice cheap one from the yellow pages who will come to the comfort of your own home. If you really insist on cutting your hair yourself make sure yu have the following equipment: -

1. Scissors - Made to cut hair

2. Decent Combs/HairBrushes

3. Mirrors

4. May-be A friend relative to watch you incase you go wrong.

TIP: - Have damp hair it is easier to cut as i am in college at the moment training to be a hairdresser.

Good Luck Bbz

the main important misstake human beings make whilst cutting their own hair is to decrease too lots. only on account that's on your eyes does not mean you are able to desire to take an inch off. Your hair grows some 0.5 inch a month, in specific circumstances much less. It grows speedier in the summertime due on your physique warmth. yet another misstake is making use of boring scissors, those reason chop up ends. undergo in strategies a hairdressers scissors value upwards of $4 hundred.00 a pair. in specific circumstances via understanding what to not do you are able to decide what to do.....

If you have long hair then dont do it. If you want to try out some stuff then do it but enjoy the fun. I did it a few times and it spoilt it but i enjoyed the fun and know i have done it a few times for the sake of trying my own cuts

Wet your hair slightly and keep in mind that when it dries it will be shorter than you think. Trim a little off at a time.

it is better to keep your hair dry because your hair looks longer when it is wet.

buy a proper pair on hair dressing scissors

if your hair is curly or wavy twist your hair into little ropes about 5mm wide before you cut

cut a centimetre off at a time and be carefully

My advice would be to go to a hair dresser. I tried to cut my hair and ended up going to the hairdresser. One side was way shorter than another.

Hello:) DO it like this:Check yourself out in the mirror. If it's straight, you could choose to have some shorter layers to frame your face. Longer layers look gorgeous with round or square faces, while shorter layers accent faces that are ovular or heart-shaped. Invest in a good pair of scissors. Like Saki Katana Hairdressing Scissors, they work great! It has an extra long crane handle with a ball-bearing screw to make cutting really smooth. Wash your hair. Divide your hair into sections. Trim the front top box.

Trim the front right section. Trim the front left section. Trim the back sections. Comb your hair out and examine your layers. Then go out and be proud of your own hair cut:)

Go to a hairdresser!!! You'll get a proper job done!! It is difficult to cut your own hair!! Although I have known people to trim their hair themselves with it looking pretty ok, it'll look better if it is done by someone else!!

You don't want to take any risks! Just go to the hairdresser, you'll have some peace of mind

Just go to your stylist. You will most likely mess it up and have to go to her anyways to fix it for you. It is hard for us to judge how much to trim when trying to look in a mirror.

Depending on how big your melon is, put a rice, soup, salad, serving bowl over your head and trim any hair sticking out. Foolproof.

I think that as you have lovely hair it would be best to go to a professional hairdresser.

Short answer is don't.

I did it once, and shaved it all off, even that left little tufty bits that someone else had to sort out.

Most guys prefer either shaved or a "landing strip."

Hope that helps.
