You'd be surprised, but straight perms for blacks are actually supposed to be called relaxers and not perms. Go into any drug store and look on the box and you'll see "relaxer" not "perm." Perm stands for Permanent Wave. Think of a "perm" as a curly perm (jeri curl), which makes the hair curly, not straight - for blacks and whites.

I went into my regular salon one day and told my hairdresser that I needed "a perm" and she looked at me surprised and said "you mean relaxer?" I'm black, my hairstylist is black, so race isn't the issue/problem. Blacks incorrectly use the word "perm" to describe a relaxer. I've stopped relaxing anyway, so that's one less issue to deal with.

they had a whole episode about it on the tyra show. Apparently African americans get made fun of for their hair, because its different and rougher. Some even permanently straighten their 4 year olds hair because they dont want their kids to be made fun of! You should look up the episode its really interesting!

because African-American people already have super curly hair, like smaller than the diameter of a pencil, so they want straight hair I suppose. And Caucasians want curly hair, because, idk. I'm mixed and I've seen Caucasian women with curlier hair than mine.

I guess it's just all about what your preference is.

Perm means Permanent.

You can get a perm for straight hair which is called a realxer.

Or you can get a perom for curly hair which I can't remember what it's called.

..?

what lol..

perm is perm..

im white..

i got perm solution..to make your hair curly..

but it straightened mine..

it has nothing to do with the formula..

with white and blacks you can use it either way..

if u want curly you put that in then put rods to give the shape of curl..

if you want straight u just put it in..

leave in in straight no rods and itll stay straight..

wow

Because there are two different kinds of perms.

perm stands for permanent.

The perm that makes your hair straight is more commonly referred to as a "relaxer"

Both use chemicals to change your hair type.

I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend a high-quality perm like Affirm. I used it for years until I decided to go natural. I had to pay a little more at the salon to get it done, but it was worth it. My hair was healthy when I had it.

Is not that Africans get their hair relaxed (chemically straightened) and Caucasian curly (perm). If you observe well you'll see that women with curly hair are the ones who like to chemically straighten it and those with straight-bone straight hair like to add curls or waves to it that's why they get a perm.People think it's greener in the other side so they want to get the opposite of what they have just for a change or because they don't like their hair.

So let me conclude ''blacks'' get it straightened because the have curly-super curly hair and want it straight (for the reasons i've said or because it's more manageable for them to take care of it) but so do Caucasian women with curly and sometimes wavy hair. Also some ''blacks'' get it curly permed (this is not done by many since most have curly hair already) or just apply a texturizer (happens more often) to loosen and elongate their curls. On the other side Caucasians with straight or wavy hair that want it [more] curly get a curly perm.

Let's do it!

African-Americans get curly and Caucasians get straight!

Most African-Americans have curly and most Caucasians have straight.
