Hi! I'm looking for some advice about dying my hair. I have generally done it myself as there is a Sally's beauty supplies not far from me so I have access to goo quality products.

Until September last year (only for about a year) I was dying my hair a deep red. The colour seemed to fade quickly to a dirty red colour which I disliked and didn't suit me. No matter what quality the colour I bought or treatments I used, my hair just didn't hold the colour well and so I hoped to go back to my natural colour (light brown) or lighter.
At the time my hairdresser advised against anything as my hair was still full of red dye. After about a month and a half they agreed to put in some highlights but these came out a brassy colour and look terrible with the reddish brown hair.

I hadn't touched my hair for 3 months now and the condition is good but I am still stressing over this red which you can still see. My hair is quite long so waiting for it to grow out is not an option, and it's looking unprofessional.
I put a very light hydrogen peroxide and ash mid-blonde which lifted the colour a little.

What would you recommend?
Of course hairdressers will say go to a hairdressers, but my highlights were evidence hairdressers screw up too...
Has anyone had similar experience?
(I would not attempt using the box dye's you can buy in supermarkets/ chemists)

your best bet is to go to sally's and get some bleach. You might wanna have a friend help you, but put the bleach on the colored hair ONLY until it turns a yellowish color. After that, put the color of your choice on all your hair. Depending on your natural color, you might want to bleach your re-growth as well (but if you do that, wait until your colored hair is almost light enough, since your scalp heat will make your virgin hair lighten MUCH faster) Hope this helps! Also, someone at sally's should be able to help you if you tell them your situation.

u may go to a hairdresser salon and purchase there a colour stripper (well, guess what it is - peroxide). then u apply it on your hair and wait. u must notice that it will bleach your natural hair in an instant and it will take very very long time to bleach dyed hair. in any case the colour will not be even so u will have to dye it the desire colour after a week or two. till then try to use a cap or just say "screw u" to people who will stare at u. in any case your hair will be damaged badly so it might be that after that u will have to actually cut a half

I've been loss of life my hair myself for over 30 years. Modern dyes are very nontoxic. If you are unsure opt for a semi-everlasting. I've simply long past from a gentle blonde to a a colourful crimson utilising a semi-everlasting and everybody thinks it first-rate. If you wish to be extra wary, ago I've performed it by way of utilising a everlasting dye almost my typical color then utilising a crimson everlasting dye approximately 3 weeks later; a good way to deliver you a darker influence however will likely be extra everlasting.

well ive had every color there is and red fades the fastest and harder to get out. i bought color remover at walgreens-works great but you have to dye ur hair the same day as using it. buy anything ash. no reds or oranges. (bright blonde will have orange) after a few weeks you can dye it lighter than ash since it will be more natural. yes salons mess up-i havent had one that didnt-they do a crap job cause they are on a time limit!! good luck! btw-color in a box is the same (some better) than the salon or sallys-its just pre mixed.

I had the same problem when I died my hair red. It does fade very quickly and is a pain to keep on top of! The only colour that will go over the top of red is black, otherwise you'll have to get your hair stripped, but this dry out your hair a lot!

i would talk to a hair dresser about going blonde or bleaching. i use to color my hair black and then wanted to go back to natural my hairdresser refused to bleach all of my hair because it's way too thin and would break off. so i've been growing it out and cutting the black off as it gets longer. i advise you do the same. just cut it off as it grows back out
