Everyone always says to trim off your dead ends to help your hair grow longer. But how does cutting off ends help?? I mean, hair grows from your roots and your hair grows at the same pace as always, so cutting off ends doesn't really do anything.

Thank You! Someone has finally figured it out! Hair isn't alive and it doesn't grow. Hair is an accumulation of a protein called keratin inside the follicle. As it builds up on the bottom it is pushed out the top, creating "hair growth". This is a biological process so nothing that you do to your hair, like trimming it can do anything to accelerate growth. Hair is an inanimate strand of protein, nothing that you do to the bottom if it can have any effect on the top of it. So that is why trimming does absolutely nothing for hair growth. It does not make your hair healthier either, that is just another stupid myth.

Trimming your ends does not promote growth, you should only trim if you have split ends, if you don't trim your split ends it will split through the shaft of your hair causing it to break off. Your hair does grow from the roots but you won't notice your hair growing if your ends are always split and needing a trim. To prevent from getting trims all the time make sure your ends are moisturized and don't use too much heat if any.

triming the dead ends off is better because if you dont cut the split ends it will start to grow up your hair until it hits the roots and then you will have to get alot more hair cut off than you would want and when you dont cut it the split ends have more time to grow up your hair

Well I think that if a hair has a dead end it stops growing UNTIL the dead end is removed. So Maybe each hair with a dead end stays the same length until it's removed.
So by eliminating the split ends on each hair it allows them to grow at a regular pace. :)

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://bitly.im/aNL4j While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.

It does not help it grow, but it does make the hair appear fuller.
