They don't come in like a bundle but more like a strand at a time... but not too often. And what could be some possible causes for this? Is a lack of zinc a possible cause?

Yep. All white hair is hair that has no pigmentation. As you age, hair does lose it's pigment all over and that's what's happening with you but on a much lower scale.

I have a deep auburn red color and I have found white and gray hairs.

Don't ever forget...hair is dead. That's why some falls out every day and all that. There's really not much that you can take to prevent it. It's funny to listen to people talk about "healthy hair" since it's dead and all. All you can do it condition it every day and take good care of it.

Genetics. I can tell you that I've had both blonde and grey strands in my hair before. Actually I still have some blonde strands where my bangs are. My mom has the same [well she is in her 40's but she too has some blonde strands of hair]. Never had a bundle or anything just random strands.

I've had a batch of white/gray hair for as long as I can remember. I'm 18. There is no pigment in my skin in that spot, so the hair grows in white. I often have stray strands of gray hair. Nothing to worry about. The ones on top of my head bother me, although no one can really see them but me, so I color my hair! :)

No, it's okay. Sometimes it's because of a lack oxygen to the strands, like if you keep you hair in tight braids.

I think it is normal for anyone to have a couple of random white hairs. I have a couple in the front along the hair line. I am 20.

Perhaps something to do with your genetics.

I had a friend who was almost completely white-haired at the age of 19, and now, at 32, looks amazing with her long silvery hair - exactly like her mother, whom I remember when I was growing up :)

My cousin had grey strands at the age of 12. She is female and colors her hair now so who knows how grey she really is now. It is related to heredity (like almost everything else).

Heredity, health issues, but I would say heredity if you are generally healthy. If you have had surgery or major trauma lately, that can cause it too. You can't reverse it, so either get some highlights or color it if you can't live with it. Sorry.

actually it is due to low level of melatonine which can be by genetics or poor nutrition habits...melatonine also is responsible for your darkness of your hair and skin
