Question:
What can I do about my overly frizzy, short, wavy hair?

I am constantly miserable about the state of my hair. It is SO annoying to have to look at it in the mirror some days, and it really undermines my self-esteem. Here is my hair-care routine below:
Shower:
Nature's Gate Aloe Vera Shampoo(handful)
Nature's Gate Tea Tree Conditioner(handful)
Garnier Fructis Cream Conditioner(big handful)
L'oreal Colour Expert Conditioning Gloss(dime-sized amount)
Cold rinse of conditioners while brushing through with "volumizing" paddle brush(doesn't really volumize, so w/e)
Out of Shower:
Fantasia Straightening Polishing Serum(enough to coat fingertips)
got2b Glossy d-frizzing Serum(enough to coat fingertips)
CHI Iron Guard Heat Protectant Spray(3-4 sprays on each side of parted hair)
Sebastian Laminates Detangling Milk & Leave-in Conditioner("")
Garnier Fructis Wonderwaves Mousse(golf-ball sized, worked into roots)
Garnier Fructis Anti-humidity Hairspray(very little, sprayed 10 inches at the least away from hair)
Blow-dry with paddle brush(gives volume)
Flat iron hair(defrizzes)
....
But yet with all the crap I put in my hair, it still gets frizzy and too-short and wavy...I'm thinking about layers, but I'm worried about what it'll do to my already-short hair. My hair grows back quickly so that won't be an issue for much longer, so should I get layers? By the way, I have very fine hair, but A LOT OF IT!!! I'll update with a picture ASAP. Please answer:(...

For one thing you only need a DIME sized amount of shampoo. maybe a quarter for thicker/longer hair. a handful is unnecessary and only wastes it. Try shampooing 2 times. some shampoo isnt meant to lather

then, you are way over doing it with the shampoos and conditioners.

just because they are moisturizing or has protein, you can over do it causing breakage and frizz.

NEVER brush your hair in the shower, when you hair is wet it stretches and the brush will make it break off and frizz up, use a wide toothed comb not regular comb, WIDE.

now out of the shower sound better than in the shower. serum, you only want to use a small amount. it may feel like you need more but it can sometimes make your hair dry.

before you blow dry, use the protectant spray and leave in conditioner, maybe the serum too. and if you need to, the mousse. but DO NOT put hairspray in before you flat iron. its not good for it.

also i would try to find Redken iron silk. My hair is so frizzy and damaged and it makes it super silky.

so all in all do this regimen:

1. shampoo with moisturizing or strengthening shampoo. (may want to get one with protein and moisture so you dont get too much of either one), dime to quarter sized. and massage your hair before putting in the shampoo will fully saturate your hair and the with the shampoo, rub it in your hand first then massage in.

2.use a conditioner, use maybe a half dollar size and leave it in while you wash your body. if u need, get a deep conditioner. and use it once a week. COMB not BRUSH it through, it will help smooth it out.

3. squeeze the water out of your hair dont rub. put a small amount, (one pump or pea sized) of serum and distribute from ends up, use a small amount of leave in conditioner. another good one is sexy hair soy leave in. its AMAZING. to hold volume instead of mousse, with your brush, dont brush down, brush up and push your hair the opposite way that you want it. and use the heat protectant of course!!

then flat iron using small sections, take a 1 inch section all around your head and using a regular small comb, comb hair first and guide your iron through, with the comb. this will take longer but the smaller section you take, the smoother it will be.

then spray with hairspray

sorry if this was too long. but my hair used to be a frizz ball and i did this and it is amazingly smooth now.

I'm sorry for all of the idiots who've came across your comments and were being complete F*** nuts. Anyway, I have the same type of hair and i'm having those same exact issues. My hair is totally F*ed. The ends are dead and it's completely uneven. Lack of money is the reason my hair isn't taken care of. For you i'd say you use less products. Use the shampoo and conditioner or course, but also use some type of hair protecter when you're getting ready to flat iron it. I have really thick long curly/wavy hair and I don't use a blow dryer before I use a flat iron but i'm sure it turns out a lot better.. Just get your hair trimmed so you're ends don't look dead and your hair doesn't grow out to be a mess..(mine is at that point) I'm not sure what else to tell you. Good luck!

That really sucks how many products you have to use.

The next time you get a hair cut ask them to thin it out. If they know at all what they are doing, thinning the hair is easy, cheap, non-damaging and should fix your problem. This way you can keep your hair short and get it layered!

Also try letting it grow long and wash your hair at night combing it out with a large tooth comb (no brushes!!! they only split hair and make it worse!) and pull it back in a pony tail or in a bandanna.

While some will tell you its bad for your hair, I've been doing it for several years and my hair is fine.

Ok, My hair is honestly exactly like yours. We have one thing in common, that is we both like short hair and don't have the hair to do it :D. So. No wonder your hair is frizzy! I'd freak if I got that much stuff slathered on me every day. Layers are good. My friend got hers cut straight across to her earlobe, after having it down past her bum, and it was basically a fro. But if you don't want to cut it----

Try leaving it alone and just rinsing it every day or every other day for a while. I've heard this works absolute wonders

Or, you could put coconut oil in your hair. Any natural oil, really, can really help your hair calm down.

If you bleach your hair, stop. Dye it with semi-permanent dyes instead. They often contain vitamins that smooth it down.

Don't blow dry, curl, or straighten as much as possible. If you have to have it straight, do that, but use a protector, and don't do it more than is absolutely necessary.

If you have to wear a hat until it grows back enough to put it up, do it. It's far better to be slightly uncomfortable then having to fix your hair years later, when it's fried.

Ok, good luck dear. :D

Wow, you have quite the routine. This might sound crazy but the only thing you have to use it Matrix Sleek.look Sealing Serum, a leave-in conditioner & heat protection. I'll give you step by step instructions.

SHOWER::

1) Anti-frizz shampoo, any brand will do (handful)

2) Anti-frizz conditioner, any brand will do (handful)

AFTER SHOWER::

1) Apply heat protection to every strand of hair, i suggest TRESemme

2) Blow dry normally

3) Apply Matrix Sleek.look Sealing Serum staring with the ends, then cover all hair

4) apply leave-in conditioner all over hair (like heat protection)

5) apply heat protection all over hair (like before)

6) straighten hair

jobs::

sealing serum- will leave hair pin-straight ever in rain (happened to me) & keep away frizz & prevent spit ends

leave-in conditioner- will keep away frizz & leave hair looking healthy

heat protection- will keep hair from frying

I do not have the time or energy to read that. However, I suggest either relating your 3 hour story to a hairdresser that has time or shaving your head and getting a mohawk. I would personally do the latter. You could dye it like purple and it would be pretty sweet. While your at it, get some tattoos and a lip ring.

Whoa! Take it easy, girl! My mom has hair just like yours and she just decided she would sit in a hair cutting place for 4 hours straight and get a bunch of horrid-smelling chemicals put in her hair and then she got a straight perm. So simple. And it works! She looked like Avril Lavigne when it was over!!

Um you can go to a salon and get a straight perm, where they perm it straight. I've done it before and it stayed straight for a good year. But it does depend on where you have it done, it can go from like 6 months to a year.

But it does damage your hair.
