Just wondering, I'm trying to grow my hair but everyone's telling me I have to keep cutting the ends. I was just wondering why we have to do that if it grows from the roots?

You don't need to trim the ends/split ends to grow your hair because trimming doesn't MAKE your hair grow. Sounds like you're smart enough to figure that out though. It's some crazy myth that people believe for some stupid reason and it's not true at all. People see what they want to see. Cutting the ends gets rid of the frizzy split ends and makes your hair look nicer but that's about all. Maybe people think it makes their hair grow because when you get a trim it defines the ends of the hair so you can see it rather than tiny, thin, split ends. And when it starts growing it's easier to see the growth because of the defined ends. Other than that I've got nothing.

Trimming doesn't make your hair grow. Nothing does except your body and how you treat your diet etc. Even then it doesn't make your hair grow faster. Your hair is going to grow at the same rate it always has and will continue to do so until you die. I've tried all the products, pills, etc etc and nothing makes your hair grow faster. Only time.

Split ends matter because it could mean not seeing a longer length of hair. Yes, your hair grows from the roots, but when your hair breaks off it breaks off at the ends. Splits contribute to hair breakage and they travel up the hair shaft. The further they go up the shaft means the shorter you'll have to cut your hair when the time comes, so that's why you should trim split ends as soon as you see them. Now, if your goal is to grow longer hair then I don't advocate trimming your hair on a set schedule, like every 6 weeks for example. If you have very healthy hair and no split ends then there is no reason to trim. I only trim split ends when I see them, otherwise I'm just cutting perfectly healthy hair and setting myself back in the growth department.

With split ends, it's not a matter of helping your hair grow faster, or helping your hair grow from the roots, but really it's a matter of retaining length and keeping your hair from breaking off - that's what will help it get longer; split ends can cut into your new growth.

whilst u have chop up ends this means that the ends of the hair commence splitting.Hair maintains starting to be from the foundation however the splitting is going up the hair and because it splits it in 2 it makes it weaker and extra brittle So my advise is decrease them and don`t complication approximately them anymore because of the fact if u don`t use straighteners or something very harsh on a daily basis you`ll be large and no chop up ends will look basically you're able to situation every time u wash it and to apply mask as quickly as a week good success:)

The hair is not just a part of your body and it is a symbol of beauty, status and health. It is important for you to take proper care of your health in order to prevent early hair loss. Learn here https://bitly.im/aNHcY It is not a very serious problem and with a little bit of caution you will be able to prevent further hair loss. There are certain uncontrollable factors like pregnancy conditions or certain illness or genetic factors that will result in hair loss. But, this does not mean that you cannot do something about your hair loss.

Because when your hair grows and you have split ends or breakage it just breaks off at the ends and you never really have much growth if it keeps breaking off.

EXACTLY.

That's the question I've been asking so, so, so many times.

I don't think getting trims every 6-8 weeks helps your hair grow faster. I really don't.

Yes, it keeps it nice and healthy, which is good! :)

But to be honest with you, I haven't had a trim in several months, and my hair's grown about three inches.

(And for those who are thinking, "Ew, she doesn't trim her hair, I bet her hair looks sooo ugly and unhealthy...I actually know how to take care of my hair, thanks :))) I don't have that many split ends.)

your question is a very good one :)

well, if split ends continue to split, they will make their way up the hair follicle and split the root and they will break off your hair D:
