Everyone is using relaxers, weaves, etc. I keep hearing that it's harder to maintain natural hair, but it's not I can say first hand it's not. I have gotten a perm since I was born and my hair is long too. I used to think it was so sexy when it used to be in style for women to wear huge fros with the headbands and the hoop earrings. I think it's sad that sisters don't appreciate black beauty as much as they used to. I don't mind if it's short either. You can look plenty feminine with short hair. That's why there's so many bald women in the black community because relaxers kill hair roots.

Well I wear my natural hair and its uber long. The only time I wear fake hair would be extentions to add either color or volume. As the person already said society shows long silky hair as pretty and black people dont naturally have that kind of hair so the turn to relaxers and what not to acheive the look society likes. Now I never was a fan of huge afros and hoop earrings but I agree with what you're saying

I'll have to disagree with the point that few Black Women wear their hair Natural. Everyday there are more articles and websites devoted to just Natural Hair care and maintenance. I do wish that more woman would be open to doing it though and would not conform to Society. But I have always believed it's the media and the perception that straighter and longer hair is more appealing and generally accepted in the workplace as opposed to braids, twists, locks and afros.

Perms on account that from a younger age my hair has been relaxed now not considering the fact that my mother did not love me or my natural hair but, considering the fact that it used to be less complicated to sort and manage like everyone has been saying detangling normal hair is painful it requires quite a lot of renovation and it is much less complicated to alter and change styles for different races you can do alot more with straight/kinkystraight hair and quite a lot of black ladies develop their hair out best to chill out or silk wrap it rather of sporting their normal hair and bash different females for sporting weave over their afros they are just experimenting! That is what women do of all races however, everyone tends to place emphasis on black women due to the fact on the skin they are so one of a kind it is perpetually "hair" though however, what about tans and lip collagen? Nope its continually about hair! What a canopy up...

Because society's image of "beauty" and "beautiful hair" these days is pin-straight, shiny, long hair. It is quite sad to see that's what most people accept as attractive, but it shouldn't be the case. I personally have curly hair (not like african-american though) and I embrace it and leave it natural. It's so much healthier to leave your hair natural and just learn how to take care of it. I think african american woman get more bleep for not straightening their hair. It's like curlier = less attractive. Unfortunately people can be easily led into thinking they're not good enough because of the media's portrayal of what's "attractive."
