Can I dye my own hair and then have the hair stylist highlight it?

My hair already has highlights and color in it, by my roots are starting to show. I was wondering if I could buy my own hair dye, dye it all one color myself (really really dark brown is what I'm going for - and my natural color is kind of a dark brown) - do it with a friend's help, and THEN go to the hair stylist to have her highlight it with really blonde highlights. My hair already pretty much has this style now but I just want the whole thing redone again because as I said, the roots are showing. Would this work? Someone on another post said that trying to dye my hair all one color wouldn't work because the highlighted pieces would show through and look "muddy" as they put it...it's like trying to put a layer of paint over a color that is likely to show through. But don't you think that that wouldn't matter that much to me? I am going to highlight it anyway, so having a few pieces of previous color show through wouldn't bother me, right? Because then when I go and have highlights put in, it will all be a mixture of highlight colors in my dark hair and look pretty cool I would think. What's your opinions?

If you already have the style, why would you want to re-do it just because your roots are showing? What I would do is buy the dye, do my roots myself, and have a hairstylist fix the highlights on the roots. This would be a lot cheaper.

But if you are saying you have a SIMILAR style, then I would just go to the hairdresser for all of it. You could do it yourself, but it always fades a LOT slower when done by professionals, and it just keeps your hair in better coniditiong - the do-it-yourself kits usually are a lot more harsh and cheaply made then the kind that professionals use. Good luck!

Yes you can dye your own hair. If your hair is already dark from the previous dye job then don't dye anything but your roots--and you';ll need a friend to do that because you can't see all of your roots. Tell your friend who will be dying the roots to just go as far down as the dark hair is or it will darken that more than it was before. The roots are the easiest to dye because it's got the most heat---your body heat. If you put dye all over your head, the roots will be lighter in color, so just do the roots.

this is a straightforward question. Many drugstores make at domicile dye kits all you may desire to do is p.c.. out the colour of your determination and stick to the training on the returned. they are in a position to fee as much as $4-10. My mom dye's her hair with the drugstore kits and that they artwork relatively properly. additionally you may desire to purchase a coloration safeguard shampoo and conditioner.
