Hey you need to address breakage if you want your hair to grow. The best advice I can give you is to baby your ends and your hair will grow. It is growing now but the hair is likely breaking as fast as it comes out of the scalp.

I will address the issues that black hair has with growing. You didn't specify whether your hair was relaxed and natural. Either way it has some damage, relaxers damage hair and if you are natural it looks like you use a hot comb or flat iron. That damages hair. So we can safely assume your hair is moderately to severely damaged when you add in the fact that your hair isn't growing.

RELAXED/PRESSED HAIR:

1. It doesn't have the tighter texture of natural hair but it also isn't straight hair. Is is essentially damaged and that's the one thing you have to remember about it. It needs protein treatments (like Aphogee 2 step treatment) and gentle treatment. Otherwise breakage causes it not to grow.

BREAKAGE SOLUTIONS:

The myth that kinky hair doesn't grow needs to be dispeled. What keeps it from gowing very often is damage to strands which causes breakage. Relaxers weaken hair but even if you have natural hair our strands are thinner than other races and often tangle together causing breakage. If you baby the ends your hair will grow. Personally I am transitioning from a relaxer. But whether natural or relaxed some of the same principles apply.

1. Condition after every time you wash. Also apply leave in condish and a deep condition every two weeks or so.

2. Find out what ingredients in hair products are harmful. Many are drying and silicones and sulfates are potentially damaging becuase they are harder to get out of curly hair than straight hair=product buildup=dry fragile hair. Toss out grease and any products where the first ingredients are mineral oil and petroleum. These are not moisturizing.

3. Only detangle hair when it is loaded with conditioner and preferably one with a lot of slip. Use fingers or a wide tooth comb.

4. Recognize what is causing your breakage. You have weakend your hair with chemicals or heat but there may be more. Unhealthy hair is the main culprit but rough fabrics, heat, dry hair, brushing, rough detangling, coloring, repetitive styling can make situation worse. Always wear a satin cap to bed and sleep on satin pillowcase. Limit chemicals in your hair is you put them in at all. And don't do the same style every day.

5. Deep condition. This is different than regular conditioning. It is more beneficial to hair as it can penetrate deeper into strands.

6. If your hair is relaxed hair you must recognize that the bonds of the hair are broken to make it straight and it is essentially damaged hair. It needs protein treatments regularly.

7. You also need to put the hair in protective hair styles like buns, twists, coils, braids, weaves etc. Protective hairstyles are good becuase you are using heat andyour hair is growing without daily styling weakening it

GROWTH SOLUTIONS:

1. I have heard good things about Mega Tek if you want fast growth. There is probably no grow fast trick but

2. Massaging scalp daily for about 5 minutes brings blood to the scalp helping hair growth.

3. Taking vitamins may be helpful. But unless you are deficient in one vitamin it won't make hair magically grow.

4. Also you should check your diet. Foods rich in protein (fish) help hair growth as hair is basically protein.

5. Get good products. Do not use grease becasue it clogs pores. Shea butter and olive oil are better scalp moisturizers. If you don't use all natural hair products at least check out biracialhair.org. She has a great ingredient dictionary.

5. Also a healthy lifestyle benefits every part of your body, including hair. If you are unhealthy your hair will be unhealthy. But nothing matters if you aren't retaining growth so baby your ends.

To find out if your hair is healthy there are 3 easy tests.

1. Hold a strand between your hands and pull. If it snaps dully without stretching at all, you have a moisture problem. Do deep conditioning treatments. If it stretches really long without a pop you have a protein problem. You need to do more protein treatments. The perfect balance is a hair strand that stretches a little and breaks with a loud pop.

2. You can also tell if your hair is not getting enough moisture. Put a strand in a bowl of water. If it floats, your good, if it sinks right away that means it's too porous and absorbs water too quickly becuase it's dry. Of course as I've explained "dry" hair is not really "dry" it just means the outer layer is standing up and the water can fill into the inner layer of the strand (like a sponge) pulling the hair down into the water. You need to condition everytime you shampoo, apply a leave in conditioner before straightening and DC every two weeks or so.

3. Simple: split ends. End of the hair strand looks like a Y. If you do not get these trimmed immediately they can move up the shaft. Visible sign of damaged hair and simplest test.

I hate to tell you this because I know you've probably been taught all of your life that certain greases help to grow the hair... none of them do because they contain petroleum and many also contain mineral oil and those ingredients hinder hair growth. Also hair grows about a half inch to an inch (if you're lucky) a month... To get the hair to grow though you can visit growafrohairlong.com or http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=6

Certain store brought hair products claim faster growth but don't deliver the results, don't fall for Dr. Miracles or Doo Gro, those are hoaxes. I have mid back length hair and its grown from ear length to the length it is now in less than two years, I know what products to use and what to not use. The way I got fast growth I used my own mixes (I have a small business now that sells natural hair products)

Just keep your scalp clean and your hair conditioned and don't use harsh shampoos with sulfates, opt for natural moisturizing shampoos and rich moisturizing conditioners and water based leave in conditioners and a really good oil blend.

def. get extensions. My friend did that and now i can't even tell. They are a lot of money though so try to get it trimmed on the ends a lot and don't use your shampoo everyday. try cutting back to every other day. still take a shower and use conditioner, but shampoo breaks down and weakens your hair.

1. Assess the current condition of your hair. Is it healthy, shiny and strong, or has it been damaged from heat, sun, coloring, etc.? You don't want to grow out hair that is damaged and scraggly. If you suffer from split, thin, and dry ends, seriously consider getting a trim to remove as much of the damage as possible. Split ends will not slow down hair growth, as your hair grows from the scalp, but they may prevent length accruing due to breakage of the ends.

2. Look at your overall health and your lifestyle. How is your diet? Do you exercise and sleep enough? Are you under a large amount of stress? If your body is lacking in health, your hair will be lacking as well. Your hair growth rate will be at its maximum when you are at your healthiest and fittest.

3. Make some dietary changes. Hair consists of protein (because hair is keretinized protein) so be sure that you are getting enough. Incorporate foods from all food groups - especially protein. Nuts, poultry, vegetables, fruits, grains, eggs, etc. All contribute to hair health.

4. Consider taking a daily vitamin supplement. There are many options on the market nowadays. Research the multi-vitamins which may work best for you. Other vitamins and minerals that are believed to contribute to hair growth are: biotin, beta-carotene, biosil, B complexes, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, silica, nettle, and flaxseed oil.

* A good hair vitamin will contain all of the nutrients necessary for overall health, as well as those specific to hair growth. Biotin and MSM are ingredients every hair vitamin should contain. Biotin promotes cell growth, the production of fatty acids, metabolism of fats, and amino acids. MSM lengthens the hair growth phase. Using a combination of the two is beneficial for healthy hair. Using an amino acid supplement is not necessary for growing longer hair. Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. They are found in all natural foods, such as meat, eggs, dairy products, vegetables, grains, fruit, nuts, and pulses. Most Americans eat more than enough protein for to supply these amino acids. Only people who do not consume enough calories need to be concerned with their protein intake. So one may assume that using an amino acid supplement can only make hair grow faster.

5. Stimulate blood flow to your scalp. One of the two main ways is by doing cardio. There are many benefits to cardio - staying fit, being healthier, glowing skin, and increased blood flow, which can get rid of strange hues that some people get on their legs and increase hair growth. The other main way of stimulating blood flow is by massaging your scalp. Take the tips of your fingers and massage your scalp all over, for about 5 minutes.

6. Do not over brush your hair and NEVER use a bristled brush, as this will tear and damage your hair. Not to mention it doesn't feel very nice. (Boar bristled brushes, however, are in fact good for your hair as they "maintain good hair condition by keeping it clean, stimulating the scalp and distributing oils for a healthy, glossy look, without ever damaging it or causing split ends." Do not brush your hair when it is wet. Wet hair is very elastic and prone to breakage. De-tangle your hair with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb.

7. Do not over wash your hair. The oils that your scalp produces can be beneficial to the health of your hair. If you wash your hair every day, consider skipping a day or only using conditioner one day instead of both shampoo and conditioner. Shampooing everyday may be necessary for oily hair, but normal hair can get by with shampooing about 2-4 times a week, and dry hair is best when you shampoo about 1-2 a week. Curly hair (types 3A-4C) and some dry wavy hair (2A-2C) can be shampooed as little as once a week, to once every two weeks, because curly hair tends to be dryer.Use a shampoo/conditioner that is right for your hair. For instance, if you have dry, frizzy hair, you should not be using products designed for oily hair. Look into using a leave-in conditioner and/or hot oil treatments. Your local beauty supply store (i.e. Sally's) will have many options to choose from. Make sure to read the directions beforehand!

8. Cut back on the coloring sessions, which will inevitably cause your hair damage. If you must color your hair, look into some of the newer dyes available which offer more moisturizing protection when dying. If you want to dye your hair a shade of red, try dying it naturally with henna. If you want to dye your hair black, you can try dying it with a combination of henna and indigo.

9. Use protective styles, which are hair styles that keep your hair up and unexposed from environmental damage. Some examples would be buns, ponytails, plaits, cornrows, French braids, etc. This is very effective for a person whose hair is above shoulder length, because the hair tends to rub against clothes. Use them loosely, though, as you don't want to yank on your
