Dying blonde highlighted hair to mahogany brown???

Ok so my natural hair is dark blonde
I have lighter blonde highlights right now and I would like to dye my hair a dark mahogany brown
(probably Garnier nutrisse 45 - DARK MAHOGANY BROWN (CINNAMON STICK)

I have heard that you should dye your hair red first and then brown, so the hair will not turn green.

But since the brown I want has the mahogany shade in it would I still have to dye it red ???

Or would I be better off to just dye it red and then a simpler medium/ dark brown??

Please help!!

No, don't use a box of dye first of all, and don't dye it red first. You need to go to Sally Beauty and buy a Protein Filler in a warm brown, this is going to prevent your hair from turning green and will even out the color of your hair; it will even out the highlights and the base color. This will leave your hair a medium brown, a warm color, and it is ready for the color. Pick out a color at Sally Beauty, the best brands are Ion Pro and Clairol Pro, let me remind you that once you go dark, there is no going back to lighter without color correction, so if you think you might not like it, then get a semi-perm dye. I think red would be nice, especially since red is in for the fall, but red turns orange if you try to dye it back to blonde. If you ever need help getting the color out, feel free to email me and I can help you with that.

Dark hair with blonde blonde high lights usually looks really bad. If you want high lights than try a color lighter than yours by a couple shades.

k i just dyed my hair from dishwater blonde. I went with an auburn (brownish red) which is a good color to start with. do it. it was the best thing i did with my hair. and before you decide on a color, just talk with your colorist AND stylist. i would NOT recomend you doing this at home. as far as the green? it is more likely to turn orange, but only if your hair is really damaged from previous dying, and really light.

Because you are blonde with dyed hair, I would call a local hairstylist and ask their advice before you dye it another shade.

Better be safe than sorry...

good luck !

keep in mind it will fade...I had blonde hair and I tried going darker and it kept fading. Expect to have to color it often until you wont fade any more.

get it done professionaly. it might be a bit expensive, but at least they'll know what they're doing and your hair wont turn green.
