HI!
OK, so I want to cut my hair REALLY badly. I've anted to for most of my life. I will be turning 13 soon. Well, I come from a Sikh family and it is against our culture to cut our hair. What I want my parents to understand is that I'm CANADIAN. I follow different standards than them and I have a different way of life. My Aunt is willing ot take me out to cut a haircut, but I don't want to get it cut without permission from my parents. So, my question is, how do I convince them to let me cut my hair?

Like said before me, keeping ur hair is for your religion, Sikhi.

13, it is a hard age to be, it is the age when the world pressures you into doing things so you can fit in with them, but fitting in with the crowd isn't always the best way.

Just because your "CANADIAN' doesn't mean that you can't follow your religion, I know a lot of Canadian born and US born Sikh (me being one of them) who follow Sikhi with their hearts.

These stanards that you speak of are not real, they don't exist. They only seem imoprtant in the teenage world that you are in right now, which in the long run isn't important, ad can negatively effect your life latter on.

It is not your aunts place to step in this area that is between you and your parents alone, pay no attention to her. No matter who or what you are, you must respect you parents. I apperciate you not doing anything with out the blessing of you parents.

Also, I urge you to learn more about Sikh, its roots, its history, its hardships, its people, it rehat, and Gurbani, before making any dramatic decision.

Also,Mr. Oops, thank you for encouraging this person to wait till their old enough to make such decisions that their parents are against.

You are right, there are a lot of hypocrites. However that should not encourage anyone to give up on Sikhi, but rather to show the world that Sikhi is strong and real. All Sikhs should live to work their way up to becoming a Khalsa of your Guru Jis and to become better.

Sikhi in indeed a great religion and thank you for encouraging the youth of today in it.

Each individual should look at themselves and learn to prosper in their belief to their fullest extent and show the world that what they put their faith in isn't false and is real and very strong.

It is now that we need real Sikhs in this world.

Sikhs should prosper in all areas of life including education, but not to impress other, and never by giving up the aspects of their religion.

So again thank you.

And back to you Ms. {<, please learn more about Sikhi, even if you already made up ur mind, I promise you that your time will not be wasted and you will enjoy it, there is a lot to learn from it for anyone seeking not just religion but other information to; I wish you the best of luck.

I'm sorry if I unintentionally, offended anyone.

HI!

OK, so I want to cut my hair REALLY badly. I've anted to for most of my life. I will be turning 13 soon. Well, I come from a Sikh family and it is against our culture to cut our hair. What I want my parents to understand is that I'm CANADIAN. I follow different standards than them and...

Your still a kid, obey your parents. When you become 16, then you can think about cutting your hair, not before that.

I am a Sikh. When i was 18 my father told me to cut my hair because our community is a community of hypocrites who only want to impress each other with low iq achievments. I thank my father for never interfering in my private life and would like to help all Sikh youngsters. Be proud to be Sikh. Ours is a great religion. But to be a proud Sikh does not mean being a true Khalsa.

Because almost every 'Khalsa' breaks his religious laws. Of the 5 K’s the Kesh ( hair and beard, eyebrows, body hair ) is shorn by a massive ( maybe 99 %, yes 99 % ) majority of the young 'Khalsa', weather they are in the UK or the fields of Punjab . Even the 'Khalsa's who keep the hair will reject 3 other physical symbols. For convenience sake - without batting an eyelid. Ask a religious 'Khalsa', - if you take so much trouble over maintaining your hair at the right length, do you keep ‘the Kacha’ ( large undergarment / drawers ) or do you wear a Calvein Klein brand of underwear. Do you keep ‘the Kanga’ ( comb ) of the right length or only a miniature Kanga – for convenience sake ? The ‘Kara’ is convenient so almost everyone ( including I ) wear it.

do some research on sikhism first and understand why gurus didn't cut their hair. But if you want one that bad wait till your 18 and cut it but i advise research on sikhi first. I too am going through the same phase and have already cut my hair once and grew a bit back but thinking to just keep it short now since i already cut it of im growing it to make my mom happy but then i realized you don't live to make others happy so im deciding to cutting my hair again when i am 18. God will understand if you dont feel like long hair is for you

As ur from a Sikh family the reason they are against u cutting ur hair is because its against the Sikh religion not against ur culture...OK so ur Canadian born and ur parents are 4rm India i assume... just coz ur born in Canada means you shouldn't follow ur religion or ur nationality over-rides wot ur religion says??? ur parents want the best for u hence they want to abide by the rules of Sikhism... Y is Sikhism against cutting hair though? because Sikhism believes that we are god creation and we should be happy the way he has made us and when we cut our hair or make changes to us then we are showing that we aren't happy with the way god has made us...In Sikhism many of our Sikh warriors and Guru's gave up their life's for the Sikhs.. many got killed because they didn't accept Islam.. one Sikh got his scalp cut off because he refused so cut his hair and convert to Islam... so think bout all this..Today we are known and are Sikhs all due to their sacrifices...please show sum appreciation towards it and research into Sikhi..but the choice is urs because it is ur life...

Same thing happened to me!

I have fricken *** loong hair!

I finnally got it cuted in the summer before I started 7th grade!

I don't remember how I convinced my mom!

Well just tell her, its healthy to get your hair cut, its hard to wash the hair, i'm old enough & i want to style it!

I got my hair cut, and now i dont even feel like leaving it open because i got the habit of having it in a braided ponytail!

I still hate my mom for doing that to me!

Canadian is a nationality. Sikh is a religion.

You are 12.

To wrap this all up: You are **** out of luck getting your haircut if your parents won't let you.

I know sikh girls. I would cut my hair myself, and face my parents yelling at me.

Just tell them how it is and do what you wan't. Or just have your aunt take you. And if your parents make a big deal about it just tell them its your hair and it will grow back.
