I'm trying to grow an afro and recently for about 2 weeks i've noticed my hair feels better and seems to like water much more than before. I feel this has made me more confident in knowing how to look after my hair. However some of my hair seems to break easily and it's short btw, i don't hear or the strand of hair come off i just notice it come off . When i touch my hair and scalp a lot it doesn't feel as good as when i don't.

Btw, the last time i trimmed my hair my hair wasn't feeling as good as it does now and was, so would it be advisable to trim or cut my hair?
Why might i be experiencing hair breakage?

I know i still have more to learn about my hair but i feel i know how to take care of my hair more.

I wouldn't say i need to change my products and i wouldn't say i'm really unhealthy.

-Hot oil Treatment or some sort of deep conditioner

-protective hairstyles (ends are tucked under)

-when you are natural comb your hair starting for your ends and work your way up with a wide tooth comb (combing from roots causes breakage)

-wrap hair with scarf before bed

-Mineral oil sulfate and alcohol free products

Most of all find what works best for you i had to play around with several different products before I found the solution to my natural hair I tried everything others suggested and I lost lots of hair what works for others may not work for you we all have different hair types.

To get less hair breakage I would suggest not to brush hair often as this causes hair to break also only brush hair with a natural hairbrush e.g. one made out of natural fire not synthetic you can buy this from The body shop and other drug stores here is a link for you:

Also try not to dry your hair on high heat as heat damages hair. I usually just mouse my hair once washed then leave it to dry naturally and I wash my hair at night. Also Try not use Straighteners too often or only on a low heat. If you do use hair Straighteners often I suggest using heat protecting Spray.

Try giving your hair a mask at least once a week but look for something that is not silicone based as this damaging to the natural keratine in the hair, I think loreal have a range of these or you could try VO5 Hot oil that is always nice on you hair.

Curly hair needs LOTS of moisture. I recommend lots of hot oil treatments and deep conditioning treatments.

Comb your hair very gently, and from the bottom up. NEVER brush an afro.
