Need my messy butt length hair cut short for a job interview?

I'm 21 female and for some weird reason I've always been very nervous about having my hair cut! Up until going to university my hair was long but OK primarily because I lived at home and my mom used to nag me in to having - infrequent - cuts!

Since being at university for three years it's not been cut at a salon ( a friend has trimmed it a couple of times) so it is very long - I can sit on it, very thick, in my face and totally style-less!

Last week for the first time since leaving university I got a job interview - next Thursday. My first thought was God I'm going to have to cut my hair! I told my BF about my interview - the job is as a PA to a corporate executive. His reaction, for that sort of job you're going to need a major restyle, and I got exactly the same reaction when I phoned my Mom.

My mom has even phoned my BF to tell him to make sure that I have a 'short, smart haircut'

So two questions:

1) Has anybody got any advice how a girl who gets anxious about having her haircut should go about. I'll obviously go when the salon is quiet because I couldn't stand people looking - I'm also nervous that they'll say my hair is damaged (the condition isn't great) and want to cut it ALL off!

2) What is an appropriate hair cut if you are working directly for a corporate exec?

I work as a HR Manager and frequently interview. I think that for the role you are going for you need to project a very professional image with hair cut shorter than most of your peers but NOT too short!

Your hair should be at least a couple of inches above your shoulders. The enclosed Bob I think is a perfect example of a professional but pretty style that would be a perfect for your role, it's short, professional and trendy (especially if you have the back cropped in to your nape) but obviously depends on your face shape.

Hope you get the job, tell them at the interview that you've had your long hair cut short because you want the job so much!

I was in a similar position to you! I attended an interview last week and had my longish hair (mid back) in a ponytail, but felt very self-conscious about thinking it didn't look very professional.

I have however been invited to a second interview this coming week where I will do a presentation, so I decided today to have my haircut!

I told the stylist why I was cutting my hair, and she persuaded me (face shape etc) to go short as in a pixie! I've now got virtually all my ear exposed, short cropped nape, and bangs about an inch above my eyebrows - no chance of getting hair in my eyes! It looks fab, and in the clothes I will wear for the presentation I look the biz! No doubt they will notice that I've had my hair cut short and I will tell them that I did it to get the job!

Be brave with your haircut and prepare to have your hair cut out of your comfort zone!

I'm not sure that it's a good idea to go from one extreme to the other. Remember that virtually any face shape will look good with a hair style that is shoulder length or slightly longer. The important thing is that it look well cared for.

I actually personally think guys look extremely hotter with short hair. I had any guy friend that had a afro and he cut it in 8th grade year and he suddenly got soo much cuter.

long hair is fine as long as it is well groomed - have 4-6 inches cut off -layers and maybe ask them to frame your face - ask the stylist for their opinion- and remember you have the last say- they can not cut all your hair off with out your permission! don't let them boss you into anything you dont feel comfortable doing

Ask the stylist to cut to the bottom of your shoulder blades. Then ask the stylist to layer your hair and get a side bang. Have the stylist to flat iron it. It will be great. Go in the morning, less busy. Good luck.

I've got mine both ways too... but our husband prefers it short... he in no way complains when I grow it lengthy, but is always all over him self w/the complements when I cut that off
