Wellbutrin and Hair Loss

by Carol Parker

Some people taking Wellbutrin are concerned about the possibility of experiencing hair loss due to this antidepressant. According to its manufacturer, hair loss is a rare side effect that may be experienced by somewhere between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1000 men and women taking this drug.

How Wellbutrin May Cause Hair Loss

The type of hair loss that can occur in people taking Wellbutrin is known as telogen effluvium. This condition is characterized by widespread thinning of the hair, and usually occurs in response to stress such as depression or adjusting to a new medication. The good news, however, is that this side effect is often temporary and reversible. Hair normally grows back around six months after discontinuing the medication.

It is not known how Wellbutrin causes hair loss but this side effect has also been noted in other mood-affecting medications, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). In rare case reports of patients experiencing hair loss associated with antidepressant drugs, the severity of hair loss seems to be dose dependent which means that taking higher doses of antidepressant drugs may cause significant hair loss at a shorter period of time.

Significant hair loss due to antidepressants can be distressing as such should be carefully monitored and reported to a healthcare provider for appropriate recommendation. Although it is not apparent, hair loss can affect the overall treatment goal. For some patients, this side effect can potentially lead to noncompliance with the treatment regimen, worsening of the symptoms and causing a relapse.

Managing Hair Loss With Welbutrin

It is important that you report to your healthcare provider the first sign of this side effect. Remember that hair loss caused by Wellbutrin is actually reversible. Your healthcare provider will perform a complete physical evaluation before making any recommendations. It is possible that the hair loss is not primarily caused by bupropion but by other ingredients of the drug or other underlying medical conditions.

If the hair loss is caused by Wellbutrin and becomes bothersome, your healthcare provider may consider adjusting your dose of Wellbutrin or switching your medication to a different type of antidepressant drug. It appears that discontinuing use of Wellbutrin is the most effective way of stopping hair loss.

However, never stop taking Wellbutrin without consulting your healthcare provider. Abruptly discontinuing use of this antidepressant drug can lead to withdrawal symptoms. Your healthcare provider will give you instructions on how to safely discontinue use of this drug.

There are some important things you need to do is drinking at least 2 - 3 liters of water and eat plenty of raw vegetables and fruits. You can keep hair healthier , cleaner and softer with Argan rain shampoo and apply it three times a week.

try applying a mix of clove oil and rosemary oil to effected areas. these both are essential oils. you can take 2-3 drops of each oil, dip cotton in it and apply on the scalp. alternatively mix these essential oils in any hair oil and apply on scalp. also take a look at the ingredients in the shampoo you use. avoid shampoos which contain SLS or SLES or any sorts of paraben.

Everything that follows is my opinion:

This could be the drug affecting you but to make sure you keep your hair, read below. The problem could be a wider angle

This is the modern age of processed everything and we have moved away from our natural whole healing diet.

Problems:

1. USA uses Monoculture to your food to sell to big companies like Walmart because it makes the most money ( bear with me I'm going somewhere with this).

This means whole fields of corn are grown in perfect rows and as much as possible, ( you've seen this, and its not just corn) man is trying to improve on nature.

This also means that one type of insect or set of insects sees an oasis of food heaven, and proceeds to increase in number quickly in this area because well its just so easy (nature balancing itself).

The Corn grower can't have these pests interfering with his money so he has to add toxic chemicals to the food to kill the bugs

The bugs become resistant to the pesticides and the monoculture farmer has to add more and more and rotate different poisons.

The toxins inhibit bacteria in the soil which in turn inhibit nutrient absorption in the plants

They can't be bothered with all of the 50 plus minerals that need to be in the soil, its to expensive. Just the ones that make the food look good enough to eat.

So they make sure to add NPK- nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Remember this is the food that keeps you alive.

So to recap you have what you call food with barely any nutrients and filled with toxins on a regular basis.

Not to mention they are now using genetically modified corn.

Try this

1. Address your diet and do not intake any more sources of toxins drugs and diet (hardest part). Toxins Stick in your cells for years to life and Block out nutrients from entering the body's cells. This include processed foods, Diet products, anything with aspartame, certain snack foods (do your research)

2. Do a body detox and cleanse your body using herbs (Begin doing this on a periodic or regular basis. Go to a health shop and ask how to do this.

3. Intake Nutrient dense foods SPECIFIC to ANY unhealthy indication (not only the hair loss) or symptom you may be experiencing.

Your focus should be on your overall feeling of health because your entire body is connected and not separate.

YOU WILL BE MIXING AND MATCHING DIFFERENT FOODS THAT GIVE YOU A POSITIVE FEELING, NOT IN A REGULAR STORE. PREFERABLY ORGANIC.

So FIND A GOOD HEALTH MARKET GROCERY STORE

When you find a vegetable or leafy green or nuts etc that gives a positive feeling, call that a hit and add it to your list and keep adding things to personalize a list, and begin eating in combination.

Ive personally eaten a potato grown in my backyard that was the same type of potato from the store, but the difference was astonishing to me health-wise. This is why I say PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY AND WHAT IT IS SAYING.

Your hair falls out when your body is trying to focus on something else that is really wrong. Your hair is not necessary. Once you the correct your nutrient problem, your hair will come back.

Once you do these things the body goes back toward balance because a disease or DIS EASE comes from the body not having what it needs to function normally.

Hair loss is a nutrient related issue in my opinion. Drugs in general are toxic and you should focus on herbs and whole organic foods. some people can be tricky with organic lables so constatly test and buy a little of something and see how you feel eating it.

Listen to your body and listen to your senses every time that you put anything into your mouth

Your body will tell you quickly with tiny feelings and sensations all throughout your body and tissues

So basically become more aware of your body.

Does my skin feel dead here? Are my hands cold? Does my spine still shiver? Am I tired? Why did my eye twitch? Do I feel pressure in my muscles? How tense am I?

Why Do my eyes feel good when I walk outside my door and look at the sunlight in the morning?

Try to detect the tiny sensations that occur when eating a snack or food or fruit etc.

When you do this you will be training yourself to listen to your body and that is way more valuable and empowering than anything you can learn from a book. Once you do this, you can use books and reading materials and videos to help to validate your feelings

I didn't proofread too much and hope I did not leave out too much or put too much in. And this could be made a little more refined.

Any ways I'm a bit tired. Good Luck!
