Question:
How to convince a stubborn parent that....(10 pts.)?

My mom doesn't like me straightening my hair. I love my hair the best when it's straightened. She'll let me straighten it for special occasions and parties but not for every day. I realize that straightening it every day could do some damage but once in a while I could settle for. Unfortunately she doesn't believe in it because she thinks I'm burning my hair with the straightener and that I'll burn myself. If I don't listen she makes me feel guilty that I'm not listening to her and that she was once my age and knows what she is talking about and yadayadaYADA...
How do I convince my stubborn Mom that straightening my hair isn't that bad?
Any natural serums I could use before straightening or a straightener that doesn't get too hot?
Thanks in advance!

I would get Tresemme heat protectant to use before straightening and a damage controling shampoo (Herbal Essences has one that is called Breaks Over and one that is called hello hydration), and a great straightener brand is GHD (it is amazing, and doesn't damage your hair MUCH!) Here are links to all of those products:

http://www.herbalessences.com/us/hair-care-products/

http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=5864&cm_mmc=us_search-_-GG-_-br%20ghd_over50-_-S1243271811_ADOGOE_AGI1118480_CRE2059836677_TID104633558_RFDd3d3Lmdvb2dsZS5jb20%3d_RAWR0hEJTIwc3RyYWlnaHRlbmVy

Offer to compromise, by straightening it every few days. Tell her that if you ever burn yourself, you will stop straightening your hair immediately. Buy all the products yourself. When trying to convince her keep your cool, never yell or say anything that will make her mad, it will just well make her mad lol. Next time you go to the hairdresser, try to have her convince your mom just a little bit.

A great way to make your hair glossy and silky:

Natural Hair mask: Strawberries and Mayonnaise – make a hair mask by mashing 8 strawberries and mixing with 1 tablespoon mayo and apply to clean damp hair. Cover hair with a shower cap and then a towel warmed in the dryer and leave on for 15 -20 minutes, rinse, shampoo and condition hair as normal. Leaves hair super glossy!

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ ALL OF THIS LOL BUT IT IS EVERYTHING I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS TO KEEP YOUR HAIR HEALTHY:

How to keep hair healthy!

• Once a month deep condition hair or give hair a conditioning treatment

• Stay away from curling irons, hot rollers, straighteners, no blow-drying, and any heat because it fries and dries out hair

• Condition hair from ears down

• Don’t dye hair, no chemicals, perms

• Brush hair while conditioner is in (in shower)

• Massage scalp a lot

• Cheap brushes are bad, so have a good brush

• leave in conditioners moisturize hair

• Be really gentle with wet hair, don’t brush (use a wide tooth comb), careful when towel drying

• Leave in conditioner protects hair from chlorine

• Very special occasion spray perfume on brush and then brush hair (bad for hair)

• Use baby oil on hair before showering at night/morning, let soak in for a while

• Exercise, drink milk, eat healthy foods, avoid diets

• Trim ends and dead/fried hair

• Wash hair every other day, brush oils throughout hair on days when you don’t wash

• Trim hair 4-6 weeks

• When exposing hair to chlorine, use leave-in conditioner before swimming and after swimming shampoo right after, chlorine is horrible for hair

• Don’t condition scalp, makes hair oily

• Dying hair darker is better for your hair then dying it lighter

• Before showering brush through hair

• When towel drying hair do not towel dry harshly, be careful and comb starting at the ends of your hair and take out knots, GENTLE

• When you do not wash your hair for a while and finally do wash it will be shiny and nice

• If you have to wash your hair everyday then put a little shampoo at top of head and rinse it out right away, use a lot of conditioner

• Use lots of conditioner on ends of hair

• When brushing hair start at ends and work up

• Tresseme heat protestant before blow drying

• Blow dry hair upside down while brushing

• Don’t use too many products

• Able to run fingers through hair and mess it up and it is just clean and shiny and smells good, super natural but nice

• Rinse hair with cold water

• Avoid plastic bristle brushes

• Adding a few table spoons of lemon juice to rinse water makes Blondes’ hair shinier

• Natural Hair mask: Strawberries and Mayonnaise – make a hair mask by mashing 8 strawberries and mixing with 1 tablespoon mayo and apply to clean damp hair. Cover hair with a shower cap and then a towel warmed in the dryer and leave on for 15 -20 minutes, rinse, shampoo and condition hair as normal. Leaves hair super glossy!

• Brushing hair 100 strokes before bed can keep natural hair oils flowing (shiny/healthy hair)

• Olive oil is a great natural hair moisturizer, soak hair in olive oil, put on shower cap, and let hair sit for over 2 hours

• Mayo, avacodos, olive oil, and egg yolks are all good for your hair

Since no go with the chemical straightner, tell her you will first blow dry your hair straight, for most of the week, but only on the ends straighten your hair, it's away from your scalp and it's more of a balance between you two.

Well...Its kind of hard to argue that they're not 'bad'..When they are. Everything your mom says is true. Straightners burn hair, and it's actually easy to burn yourself(Like the other day, I just clamped my ear with my GHD...It's not all burned over.)...But just tell her you will keep your hair healthy, Tell her you'll get deep conditions and trims, and that you'll get a good heat protector. If that doesn't work, Then guess your gonna have to wait till your older and on your own.

::Go to a beauty salon and have your mom talk to your hair stylist on ways to not damage hair from your straightner, or just swing by your local Sally's Beauty Supply and grab some heat protection serum for no more then 5-7$ works great to protect your hair from heat damage, and adds a healthy looking shine to your hair!::

:: Best of luck sweetie! ::

Ask to get it chemically straightened. You can do that in a lot of salons, and it lasts until it grows out.
