How do I fix my hair colour?

About a month ago, I dyed my hair natural black with dye that I bought from a cheap supermarket. My roots have grown in quite a bit, and I decided I was done with black, and I wanted a new look. So I got this new shade that's kind of copper-y brown-ish. My natural hair colour is dark brown. I dyed my whole hair, but the dye only worked on my roots, and the rest of my hair is still black. It looks awful, and I don't know how to fix it. Can anybody help?

Pretty sure you would of bought a semi permanent hair colour, going by your result. Semi's will not lighten your hair, hence, your ends being dark still, and your roots the target colour, you're probably very lucky you only used a semi because your colour would of gone a revolting orangy red. If you're over the black, you either have to let it grow out, or go to a salon and get it highlighted, it cant be done at home if you have no idea what you're doing. Dont use haircolours from supermarkets on black hair, unless going darker.

I'm assuming it was a permanent/semi permanent black, which would mean that now your hair won't go lighter because the colour can't lift - the black is hindering it's ability to do so. I suggest you go to the hair dressers to strip all the colour out and get them to dye it that shade of copper brown, otherwise you're just going to have to grow it all out and it could look nasty with three different colours in it at once! i think you have to bleach it. If it is a permanent it will only grow out! You could do it gradually with highlights first until you get it the right colour
